Mission and Vision

“The mission of the SAGS is to promote all aspects of genetics and guard against the inappropriate use of genetics."

The SAGS has the following objectives:

To provide a podium through which multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional scientific co-operation in genetics in southern African and Africa can be enhanced.
To promote genetics as an academic discipline in South Africa.
To present information to the general public on the place and value of historic and new developments in genetics and to encourage and contribute to education and training in this regard.
To support and foster genetics through congresses, symposia, workshops, newsletters and publications.
To act as a professional organisation that can assist in the establishment of standards of teaching, training and research in genetics in South Africa.
