SAGS membership 

SAGS membership is open to any professional person engaged in the practice, research or teaching of any aspect of genetics. 

Membership may be conferred in one of the following categories: Ordinary Members and Student Members. The SAGS may also honour members or other persons associated with Genetics by electing them as Fellows of the SAGS.  Ordinary membership may be conferred on any person possessing at least a bachelor's degree in Genetics, or an equivalent degree in a related discipline from a recognised university and registerable as a Natural Scientist in accordance with the requirements of Act. No. 55 of 1982, as amended, or otherwise deemed acceptable by Executive Committee.  Bona fide postgraduate students in Genetics or a related discipline, who are not employed on a full-time basis, may apply for student membership. Student membership is limited to a maximum period of seven years.

Membership fees will henceforth be payable per two-year cycle leading to the next SAGS congress. The current cycle is 2009/2010. Full membership is R100 per year, i.e. R200 per cycle. Student membership is R50 per year, i.e. R100 per cycle.

Members receive the following benefits from the Society:

•           Reduced registration fees at the biennial symposium of the Society

•           Financial support for student members wishing to attend the biennial symposium of the Society

•           Access for placing information or advertisements in the electronic media of the Society

•     Access to member database to facilitate communication and collaboration between Society members

 

Registration Procedure

To become a member navigate to the membership area and go to the register page. Fill in all the relevant details and click on the APPLY button. Your details will be registered in the members’ database and an invoice will be generated automatically. 

Payment Options

Once you have received an invoice, pay the fees per cycle either electronically or directly into the Society’s bank account. The bank details will be indicated on the electronic invoice created after your registration has been completed. Please pay the dues within 30 days after registration.  Upon payment, an invoice will be issued which will serve as confirmation of membership.
